About the Book

When author Fred Gross began his “dogging” days in Oceanside, New York, in February of 1978, Alpha Omega Theta was already a powerful brotherhood with chapters in Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Freeport, and of course the main chapter in Valley Stream.

There was a lot of turmoil and violence, with the banning of fraternities due to the public’s negative public perception, but Fred Gross states with pride that Alpha Omega Theta Fraternity has, over the years, turned young men into outstanding adults.

Fraternal Brotherhood chronicles the fraternity’s remarkable history, beginning with its founders’ headstrong determination at becoming “first, last, always.”  Two years after founding AOT in 1946, the brotherhood had become a non profit corporation with a rapidly expanding membership roster.

From elegant black tie ballroom dances in Brooklyn, to drunken backyard keg parties on Long Island, read about the hazing, the fights, and the brawls that degenerated from athletic rivalry to all out warfare between the different fraternities.

This book is a look back at the days lost in time when young men fraternized and formed the bonds of brotherhood.

Today the Alumni of Alpha Omega Theta meet frequently and plan AOT's place in the 21st century. In April of 2007 a Grand Chapter reunion was held in Oceanside New York which was attended by two hundred members of various chapters spanning sixty years.
